I’m Danitra Antrielle Hunter
Teaching Artist. Author. Illustrator.
I’m the very proud creator of Me Darling Doodles, also known as Purrdie Burrdie and Friends.
Danitra Antrielle Hunter is known for her beloved character Purrdie Burrdie, who she began drawing as a coloring page for children of all ages to color and bedazzle back in 2008 while working at her local YMCA as a childcare provider. Inspired by the iconic Hello Kitty, Danitra had a vision to create a character that represents black culture and self-love. Growing up Danitra didn’t have brown characters to color and adore, nor had she ever learned about self-love.
That’s why she created Purrdie Burrdie, she wanted to give black and brown children a character of their likeness all the while teaching children of all ages and backgrounds the importance of self-love. Purrdie Burrdie’s I Love Myself, Can You See is Danitra’s first self-published children’s book. Inspired by black and brown girls who weren’t loving themselves or their culture. You meet all of her friends, see a glimpse of her world, and learn all about why she loves herself so much. Purrdie Burrdie’s I Love Myself, Can You See is interactive, there is a list of 11 questions about self-love, a list of repeatable self-love affirmations, a 30-day self-love challenge, a step-by-step guide on how to draw Purrdie Burrdie, the book ends with a self-love promise to be signed. This book is a wonderful introduction into what it takes to love yourself.
Vision
My vision is a world where children of all ages and backgrounds have the tools to learn how to love themselves for who they are as they are.
Mission
My mission is to share Purrdie Burrdie and the message of self-love to children around the world regardless of gender, age, or ethnicity.
