Hello, I’m Purrdie Burrdie! I come from the Planet Doodletopia. I live on Love Avenue in a small town called Doodleville. I love myself because I’m special to me; loving myself is my specialty. My favorite saying is Wowzer Kadowzers! Please love- self is my motto, and my favorite colors are black, brown, and purple.

Hello, I’m Danitra Hunter and I am a self-taught artist. I live in West Seattle, WA. where I work as a part-time Preschool teacher for the YMCA. My beloved character, Purrdie Burrdie, started as a black-and-white image for children to color and bedazzle. Purrdie Burrdie was inspired by the iconic Hello Kitty, I have been working on my dream as the creator of Purrdie Burrdie since 2008. My dream is to share Purrdie Burrdie with as many people as I can in my lifetime. I am currently exploring art journaling and mixed media

Story Of The Book

This book is Inspired by black and brown girls who weren’t loving themselves or their culture. You meet all of her friends, see a glimpse of her world, and learn all about why she loves herself so much. Purrdie Burrdie’s I Love Myself, Can You See is interactive, there is a list of 11 questions about self-love, a list of repeatable self-love affirmations, a 30-day self-love challenge, a step-by-step guide on how to draw Purrdie Burrdie, the book ends with a self-love promise to be signed. This book is a wonderful introduction to what it takes to love yourself.

Must buy! This book is a must-have for all children! Nowadays there are so many negative messages being put out for kids and it truly affects their self-love and self-image. Purrdie Burrdie is an incredible message of self-love, kindness, and doing the right thing. The characters are all unique and eye-catching. The artwork is well thought out, flows, and engages children in the story. My daughter was in awe seeing characters that looked like her, liked the same activities as her and genuinely loving messages of the book left my daughter smiling, happy, and wanting to read it again and again. To top it off at the end of the book there are self-love exercises and a tutorial on how to draw your own Purrdie Burrdie, what more could you ask for!?

I got this book for my daughter. We’ve been working on teaching self-love as she gets older. In today’s world, that’s hard enough, but it’s even harder with a mixed-race daughter. When we read this book together, my daughter was so excited to see characters that looked like her. She made comments like, “Oh my gosh Dad! She has skin like me, and look at her hair, it’s so curly and pretty like mine!” She was even happier to see that Purrdie Burrdie likes all of the same things as she does.
